Description
From El Calafate, in just minutes, we'll begin our ascent to the Huyliche mountain range. The route starts along the slopes of the Calafate Stream Canyon, where we can spot native wildlife: guanacos, foxes, hares, long-tailed meadowlarks, ibis, caracaras, and falcons, among other species. We'll continue along the winding, ascending road surrounded by erratic boulders, testaments to the power of glacial erosion, until we reach the First Balcony. This Cenozoic Era site, dating back 65 million years, lies on the bed of an ancient sea, exposed in the form of fossils, sediment, and fragments of fossilized vegetation.
After getting out of the vehicles for a few minutes, we'll continue to the intermediate balcony where the guides will fit the equipment (harnesses, helmets) and explain the activity, indicating the correct position and braking technique. This is the starting point of the zip line circuit, where the ultimate adventure begins as you descend the hill on four lines totaling 2,920 meters.
Continuing the descent, we'll arrive at Estancia Huyliche, a historic and still-operating cattle ranch dating back to the 1920s, the era of the historical events known as the Patagonia Rebellion. Lunch, afternoon tea, or dinner will then be served in the oldest house on the ranch, depending on your reservation.
**The Cerro Huyliche 4x4 excursion offers three options for the descent: 4x4, zip line, or trekking. If you're traveling with family or friends and choose different options, you'll share the 4x4 ascent and the time spent at Estancia Huyliche.**
The tour lasts between 3.5 and 4 hours, depending on the number of participants.
** In winter, when part of the 4x4 route becomes inaccessible due to heavy snowfall (or mud during the thaw), the ascent is made to approximately 800 meters to reach the "East" Balcony, from which you can appreciate magnificent panoramic views of El Calafate, Lake Argentino, and the Andes Mountains. The zipline descent is made on the third and fourth lines, the most spectacular on the circuit!
