Description
We'll leave early to enjoy the journey to the glacier almost entirely to ourselves. This is an active tour.
We'll take the alternative, less-traveled gravel road, spotting animals and birds, and climbing to a high point that offers unique views of Lake Argentino.
We'll travel along the historic estancia route. There's no rush; you can stop to take photos whenever you like, although we've already planned stops at the best scenic spots. We'll pass by the most emblematic estancia in Patagonia, Estancia Anita.
We'll continue across the steppe to reach the Rio Mitre rest stop, owned by Echeverría. This iconic gaucho of the area offers a rest stop with genuine gaucho character, from the views and farm animals to the decor...
A truly Patagonian rest stop that you'll love for its welcoming atmosphere and unforgettable views! There's time; you can have some mate, coffee with cakes (not included), use the restrooms, or help feed a lamb with a bottle! You'll see breathtaking views of the South Arm Valley and the Andes Mountains, giving you a sense of the scale of the Patagonian ranches.
We'll continue until we reach the regular paved road, the point where we left the ranch. We'll then be at the entrance to Los Glaciares National Park - Río Mitre section. Here, everyone pays their own entrance fee (not included - we recommend bringing cash to avoid queues).
We continue along a scenic route but will stop a few kilometers before reaching the Perito Moreno Glacier to begin a descent to the iceberg beach on the South Arm of Lake Argentino. This might be the best part of the tour, and only we have permission to do it!
It's a trail "off the beaten track, right in front of the glacier, just for us." Imagine visiting Moreno Glacier from a truly special place, walking and discovering pristine, natural landscapes in complete silence!
A solitary and natural environment where, as you cross the almost enchanted and tranquil forest, you might spot woodpeckers, Austral Parakeets, and other wildlife. All this in the company of a specialized naturalist guide, certified by the National Parks Service, who will help you interpret the surroundings.
Those arriving by rental car, regular bus, or their own vehicle will miss this fantastic experience. (This hiking activity may be suspended due to bad weather. In this case, no refunds will be issued as it is a force majeure event and the tour will continue with the remaining activities, such as visiting the walkways.) The hike lasts 45 minutes, traversing uneven, mostly downhill, and rugged terrain. After the trek, our transportation will be waiting to take us to the walkways.
Additionally, you can book a boat trip in front of the glacier with the help of the guide (not included). Upon reaching the walkways, everyone goes their separate ways and enjoys their free time, discovering the sounds of the glacier, walking, and finding the best angle to witness the calving events that only this glacier can reveal.
Regarding food, we suggest bringing something in your backpack or using the restaurant located at the Moreno Glacier.
A few hours later, around 3:00 PM, we begin our return journey. We will use the regular paved road, completing a route you didn't see in the morning.
This is the only tour that gives you the opportunity to see the greatest variety of landscapes, exploring new places at every turn—for almost the same price as a conventional excursion!
