Description
We depart from Punta Bandera port. We begin navigating through the Iceberg Channel and then enter the Mayo Sound of Lake Argentino. The glaciers of Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro are located in an area accessible only by boat.
We disembark at Bahía Toro with our guide, where we take an interpretive walk (700 meters) to observe the Patagonian Andean forest. We visit a waterfall, which feeds a beautiful stream, from where we can observe a limestone rock formation. From the lake shore, we can see the hanging glaciers of Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro.
We returned to the boat and, in just 15 more minutes of sailing, arrived at our next stop…
We disembarked at Cerro Negro, and together with the guide, began a hike of about 1,000 meters, venturing into the Patagonian Andean forest, following the course of a stream that led us to the base of Cerro Negro, from where we could admire the magnificent Glaciar Negro (Black Glacier). From this "hanging" glacier on the mountainside, numerous waterfalls originate, giving rise to the river that we followed on the way there and back.
Then we traveled to the most famous glacier in Patagonia, the Perito Moreno. Unique for its beauty and imposing presence, this enormous mass of ice originates in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field and stretches 30 kilometers until it reaches and ends opposite the Magallanes Peninsula, on Lake Argentino, where its walls rise to over 60 meters in height. We embarked on an unforgettable boat trip along its northern shore and the area of the breach.
Finally, we disembarked at Puerto Moreno and explored the walkways. We then returned to the ship and set off back to the port of Punta Bandera.
